Solution Overview

Unified Analytics Platform

Today, customers typically store structured data from traditional sources in one or more data warehouses, and semi-structured data in one or more data lakes, often with a mix of cloud and on-premises deployments. Vertica combines a performant, efficient data warehouse with a SQL query engine capable of analyzing data wherever it resides, giving customers a holistic view of their business, and the capabilities required to operationalize Machine Learning at scale.  

Vertica SQL on Hadoop

Vertica allows the integration of many different data stores.  Hadoop Data Lakes (via MapR Ezermal Data Fabric) can be ingested into the Vertica Unified Analytics platform, thus creating a joint unified value proposition for the market/customer segments where a joint solution is required. 

Analytics at the Edge

With the advent of customer challenges of solving data analytics solutions where the data lives at the edge, the Vertica solution, combined with the Edgeline solution, allows the volume and velocity solution of data analytics to be moved to the edge.  

Secure Data with Voltage

Vertica seamlessly integrates Voltage Format-Preserving Encryption (FPE) to protect data in-use for analytics. Voltage data protection is an extension of Vertica capabilities and fully supported by Vertica. Vertica's integration of Voltage supports secure analytics without sacrificing usability and enables businesses worldwide to comply with privacy mandates while delivering critical insights on all of your data.

Technical Overview

SQL Data Warehouse

• Columnar design and advanced compression delivers superior performance, I/O, storage footprint, and efficiency.
• Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) allows customers to scale linearly with native high availaibilty.
• Open architecture with support for leading BI and visualization tools, open source technologies like Apache Hadoop, Kafka and spark, and ETL tools. Vertica works in your current ecosystem.
• Vertica in Eon Mode separates compute and storage to deliver operational flexibility and efficiency, while enabling companies to operationalize machine learning at scale. 

SQL Query Engine

• Query massive volumes of data wherever they reside - in the cloud, on-premises, in a data warehouse, or in a data lake.
• Vertica's Database Designer and Administration tools simplify tuning and allow customers to quickly identify performance issues and optimize their database physical design.
• Build optimized projections to get answers to the most frequently run queries fast. 

In-Database Machine Learning

• Vertica supports the entire Machine Learning process in the database, from data preparation to deployment.
• MPP architecture allows customers to train built-in distributed algorithms on massive data sets, and deploy models at Petabyte-scale with extreme speed and performance.
• SQL-based machine learning functions democratize predictive analytics. Vertica also features extensibility for R and Python, and integration with TensorFlow, so data scientists can use the tools they like.

Service and Support for Vertica products are provided directly by Micro Focus. Online access to the MySupport portal is available around the clock at www.microfocus.com/support-and-services. The self-service support allows customers to download the latest Software Updates, access the Knowledge Base and Documentation, and log, track, and update incidents and provide incident reporting. Customers may log an unlimited number of technical Support incidents with a Severity Level  that appropriately reflects their current status. Micro Focus reserves the right to reassign a Severity Level once problem diagnosis has commenced if it determines that such a level has been inappropriately classified. Software Warranty

Micro Focus warrants for the Warranty Period (90 days beginning on the data of delivery of the Licensed Software) that: (i) if the Licensed Software is supplied via media, the media will be free from defects in materials or workmanship under normal use, and (ii) the copy of the Licensed Software delivered to the customer substantially conforms in all material respects to the Documentation. The customer's sole and exclusive remedy for any defective media supplied by Micro Focus shall be Micro Focus's  repair or replacement of such defective media free of charge, provided that the defective media is returned to Micro Focus during the Warranty Period. During the Warranty Period, the customer's sole and exclusive remedy for not meeting part (ii) of the above warranty shall be the repair or replacement of the Licensed Software by Micro Focus free of charge so that it substantially conforms to the Documentation or, if the customer reasonably determines that such remedy is not economically or technically feasible, the customer shall be entitle to a full refund of the license fee and any maintenance fee paid for the Licensed Software. Upon such refund, the customer's license to use the Licensed Software will immediately terminate.

Restrictions

The warranties set forth above shall not apply if the defects in the Licensed Software or media result from: (a) failure to use the Licensed Software in accordance with the Documentation, this Agreement or ALAs; (b) the malfunctioning of Licensee's equipment or network; (c) accident, neglect, or abuse; (d) service by any unauthorized person; (e) other software used by Licensee and not provided by Licensor, or for which the Licensed Software is not designed or licensed for such use; (f) Third Party Software that is not a Third Party Component; (g) any other cause occurring after initial delivery of the Licensed Software or media to the customer, unless caused directly by Micro Focus. Micro Focus has no responsibility for any claims made outside of the Warranty Period. The foregoing warranty shall not apply to any free-of-charge Licensed Software or updates provided under support and maintenance. THE FOREGOING WARRANTIES DO NOT APPLY, AND LICENSOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WITH RESPECT TO ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE THAT IS NOT A THIRD PARTY COMPONENT. The warranties set forth in this section will not apply and will become null and void if the customer materially breaches any provision of the End User License Agreement (EULA). The provisions in this QuickSpec guide do not supercede any signed agreement between Micro Focus and the customer.
