Arista Fixed (ToR) Switches are built specifically for the data center with high performance, high density, fixed configuration, with wire speed Layer 2 and Layer 3 features. Combined with advanced benefits such as dynamic and deep buffers, ultralow latency designed to support software defined cloud networking and emerging requirements.

Cloud Optimized Performance

Overview (Arista 7010T Gigabit Ethernet Data Center Switches)

 

The Arista 7010T oers a purpose built high performance and power ecient solution for high density data center deployments. With 48 ports of 10/100/1000 and 4 integrated 1/10GbE SFP+ ports the switch delivers non-blocking forwarding of 176Gbps combined with feature rich L2 and L3 switching. A natural extension to the 7050X Series the 7010T are members of the Arista portfolio of data center switches. 

The 7010T delivers the flexibility to be deployed as the server edge of 1Gb Ethernet leaf and spine designs or as a dedicated management network switch. With broad support for QoS, security, automation and monitoring features the 7010T provides an ideal solution to the challenges of implementing network policy consistently in both 1G and 10G environments when combined with the Arista fixed configuration 10G switches. Arista EOS advanced automation, monitoring and provisioning features that are consistent to all Arista 7000 Series switches, eliminate the complexity associated with managing mixed environments with inconsistent feature sets. Addressing the need for server Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and out of band (OOB) network monitoring, demands solutions that are simple to deploy and manage, with full support for 100Mb and 1Gb with redundant power and cooling for availability. 

Featuring a choice of two models the 7010T Series provide a choice of AC or DC power. Both models have 48 10/100/1000Mb RJ45 ports and 4 SFP+ ports for both 1G or 10G uplink connections with a full range of optics and cables. The Arista 7010T switches oer low latency and a shared packet buer pool that is allocated dynamically to ports that are congested.

 

Consuming under 52W the 7010T are extremely power ecient at less than 1W per port. Built in power redundancy and customer reversible redundant fans allows cooling airflow in either forward or reverse direction in a single system.

Arista EOS

The Arista 7010T runs the same Arista EOS software as all Arista products, simplifying network administration. Arista EOS is a modular switch operating system with a unique state sharing architecture that cleanly separates switch state from protocol processing and application logic. Built on top of a standard Linux kernel, all EOS processes run in their own protected memory space and exchange state through an in-memory database. This multi-process state sharing architecture provides the foundation for in-service-software updates and self-healing resiliency.

 

With Arista EOS, advanced monitoring and automation capabilities such as Zero Touch Provisioning, VMTracer and Linux based tools can be run natively on the switch with the powerful x86 CPU subsystem.

Out of Band Networks

The 7010T provides for the consistent application of access controls, network security features and remote monitoring to protect access to both dedicated management interfaces and restrict access to authorized users of out-of-band networks. Intelligent Platform Management Interfaces (IPMI) on servers provide a standard interface for complete system management including startup, management, maintenance and shutdown over standard Ethernet networks. Access to the IPMI ports allows for privileged access and full control of the server. The Arista 7010T with EOS provides rich features that are applied to both the management networks and the production data center networks consistently across the range of Arista 7000 Series switches. 

Scaling Data Center Performance:

The Arista 7010T series delivers line rate switching at layer 2 and layer 3 to enable dramatically faster and simpler network designs for data centers that lowers the network capital and operational expenses. Next Generation Provisioning and Monitoring

Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) combined with other Arista features, like VMTracer's adaptive VLAN configuration allows data center managers to fully automate the bring-up of network elements and virtual servers and leverage Arista's unique 'hands-off' provisioning.

Designed to integrate with VMware, OpenStack and Microsoft OMI, Arista’s open architecture allows for integration with any virtualization and orchestration system providing visibility to the VM-level enabling portable policies, persistent monitoring and rapid troubleshooting of cloud networks.

 

Unified Forwarding Table

Cloud network scalability is directly impacted by the size of a switches forwarding tables. In many systems discrete fixed sized tables are used for each of the common types of forwarding entries with additional memory required to expand any one table. In cloud environments correctly sizing these tables is critical to allow for flexible network scaling. The Arista 7010T leverages a common unified forwarding table for the L2 MAC, L3 Host and IP Multicast forwarding table entries that allows each table to be sized correctly for the solution. Each of these table size varies depending on the network deployment scenario. A large choice of pre-defined configuration profiles are available on the 7010T to enable optimal resource utilization for all network topologies and network virtualization technologies - L2, L3, or L2overL3 overlay.

 

EOS Software Licensed Features

Arista EOS delivers a comprehensive feature set along with single image consistency with all other Arista switches. The default EOS system software has a broad Layer 2 feature set with extensive monitoring and provisioning, security, QoS and management features. Layer 3 IPv4 and IPv6 unicast and IPv4 multicast routing functions require the Enhanced license, and VMTracer requires the Virtualization license.



 

Overview (Arista 7050SX Series)

 

The Arista 7050SX are members of the Arista 7050X Series and key components of the Arista portfolio of data center switches. The Arista 7050X Series are purpose built 10/40GbE data center switches in compact and energy ecient form factors with wire speed layer 2 and layer 3 features combined with low latency and advanced features for software defined cloud networking.

 

Increased adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet servers coupled with applications using higher bandwidth is accelerating the need for dense 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet switching. The 7050SX Series support flexible combinations of 10G and 40G that allow customers to design large leaf and spine networks to accommodate both east-west trac patterns found in modern data centers, high performance compute and big data environments.

 

Featuring a choice of seven dierent 1RU and two 2RU models the 7050SX Series deliver high density 1/10G SFP+ based ports and 10/40G ports using QSFP+. or embedded optics with MXP multi-speed ports for higher density. Each MXP port can enable a choice of 3x 40GbE or 12x 10GbE

 

All models in the 7050SX Series delivers rich layer 2 and layer 3 features with wire speed performance up to a maximum performance of 2.56Tbps. The Arista 7050SX switches oer low latency from 550ns in cut-through mode, and a shared packet buer pool of up to 16MB that is allocated dynamically to ports that are congested. With typical power consumption of less than 2 watts per 10GbE port the 7050SX Series provide industry leading power eciency with airflow choices for back to front, or front to back. An optional built-in SSD supports advanced logging, data captures and other services directly on the switch.

In cut-through mode, the Arista 7050SX switches forward packets with a latency of 550 nanoseconds to 650 nanoseconds. Upon congestion, the packets are buered in shared packet memory that has a total size of 12 Mbytes. Unlike other architectures that have fixed per-port packet memory, the 7050X Series use Dynamic Buer Allocation (DBA) to allocate up to 6.7MB of packet memory to a single port for lossless forwarding. The 7050SX2-128 and 7050SX2-72Q have an enhanced 16Mbyte buer that is optimized for more demanding environments.

Smart System Upgrade is a network application designed to address one of the most complicated and challenging tasks facing data center administrators - network infrastructure maintenance. SSU provides a fully customizable suite of features that tightly couples data center infrastructure to technology partners allowing for intelligent insertion and removal, programmable updates to software releases and open integration with application and infrastructure elements.

Arista Latency Analyzer (LANZ) is an integrated feature of EOS. LANZ provides precise real-time monitoring of micro-burst and congestion events before they impact applications, with the ability to identify the sources and capture affected traffic for analysis.  

Virtualization

Supporting next-generation virtualized data centers requires tight integration with orchestration tools and emerging encapsulation technologies such as VXLAN. The 7050X builds on the valuable tools already provided by the Arista VM Tracer suite to integrate directly into encapsulated environments. Offering a wire-speed gateway between VXLAN and traditional L2/3 environments, the 7050X makes integration of non-VXLAN aware devices including servers, firewalls and load-balancers seamless and provides the ability to leverage VXLAN as a standards based L2 extension technology for non-MPLS environments.

In many systems a 'one size fits all' approach is adopted using discrete fixed size tables for each of the common types of forwarding entry. The Arista 7050X leverages a common Unified Forwarding Table for the L2 MAC, L3 Routing, L3 Host and IP Multicast forwarding entries, which can be partitioned per entry type. The ideal size of each partition varies depending on the network deployment scenario. The flexibility of the UFT coupled with the range of pre-defined configuration profiles available on the 7050X ensures optimal resource allocation for all network topologies and network virtualization technologies.

The 7260CX-64 is a 2RU system with 64 QSFP100 ports offering wire speed performance with an overall throughput of up to 12.8 Tbps, combined with latency of under 1500ns and 64MB of buffer that is shared between groups of interfaces. Each QSFP port supports a choice of 5 speeds with flexible configuration between 100GbE, 40GbE, 4x10GbE, 4x25GbE or 2x50GbE modes for up to 256 ports of 10GbE or 25GbE, and 128x 50GbE. All ports can operate in any supported mode without limitation, allowing easy transitions and maximum flexibility.

 

The 7060CX-32S delivers 32 QSFP100 ports in a 1RU system with an overall throughput of 6.4Tbps. All ports allow for a choice of 5 speeds including 100GbE, 40GbE, 4x10GbE, 4x25GbE or 2x 50GbE with a wide choice of QSFP transceivers and cables. All QSFP ports can operate in any mode without limitation enabling a wide choice of combinations for both top of rack and spine deployment. The Arista 7060CX-32S supports latency as low as 450ns in cut-through mode, and a shared 16 MB packet buffer pool that is allocated dynamically to ports that are congested.

The 7260QX-64 is a 2RU system with 64 fixed ports of 40GbE QSFP+ in a power efficient system with overall throughput of 5.12Tbps and up to 3.3Bpps of forwarding at both layer 2 and layer 3.

The Arista 7260QX switches offer low latency from 550ns in cut-through mode, and a shared 16 MB packet buffer pool that is allocated dynamically to ports that are congested. Consistent features to the 7060CX and 7260CX combined with low power and high 40GbE density means the 7260QX is optimized for 40GbE top of rack and spine tiers, high density storage and financial trading systems. Dynamic Buffer Allocation

In cut-through mode, the Arista 7060X and 7260X switches forward packets with a latency of 450 nanoseconds to 550 nanoseconds.

Upon congestion, the packets are buffered in shared packet memory that has a total size of 16 MBytes per port group. Unlike other architectures that have fixed per-port packet memory, the 7060X and 7260X Series use Dynamic Buffer Allocation (DBA) to allocate packet memory to a single port for lossless forwarding.

Arista EOS

The Arista 7150S runs the same Arista EOS software as all Arista products, simplifying network administration. Arista EOS is a modular switch operating system with a unique state sharing architecture that cleanly separates switch state from protocol processing and application logic. Built on top of a standard Linux kernel, all EOS processes run in their own protected memory space and exchange state through an in-memory database. This multi-process state sharing architecture provides the foundation for in-service-software updates and self-healing resiliency.

Dynamic Buer Allocation

The Arista 7150S forwards packets at an ultra low latency of 350 nanoseconds from any port to any other port. However when a microburst or transient in-cast condition causes contention of an egress interface, packets must be buered. The 7150S global packet memory is dynamically allocated on demand to congested interfaces, avoiding packet loss.

The Arista 7280R lowers total cost of ownership as they are designed to be ecient with power per port as low as 25W per 100GbE port which combined with front to rear cooling to optimize the data center environment produces the most reliable, dense and power ecient 100GbE fixed configuration switch.

 

7280R Deterministic Network Performance

The Arista 7280 Series uses a deep buer virtual output queue (VOQ) architecture that eliminates head-of-line (HOL) blocking and virtually eliminates packet drops even in the most congested network scenarios. An advanced trac scheduler fairly allocates bandwidth between all virtual output queues while accurately following queue disciplines including weighted fair queueing, fixed priority, or hybrid schemes. As a result, the Arista 7280 can handle the most demanding data center requirements with ease, including mixed trac loads of real-time, multicast, and storage trac while still delivering low latency.

 

7280R High Availability

The Arista 7280R switches were designed for continuous operations with system wide monitoring of both hardware and software components, simple serviceability and provisioning to prevent single points of failure. Key high availability features include:

Overview (Arista 7280E Series)

 

The Arista 7280E Series are key components of the Arista 7000 Series portfolio of data center switches. The Arista 7280E series are purpose 10/40/100GbE fixed configuration systems built for the highest performance environments, where wire speed L2 and L3 forwarding are combined with advanced features for network virtualization, open monitoring and network analysis, resiliency and architectural flexibility. The 7280E capabilities address the requirements for modern networking and rich multi-media content delivery requiring a lossless forwarding solution. 

The 7280E Series are available in three models each with 48 SFP+ ports for 1/10GbE and a choice of 40GbE and 100GbE uplinks. The 7280SE-64 has four QSFP+ uplink ports that allow a choice of four 40GbE or up to 16 additional 10GbE ports with the use of transceivers or cables. The 7280SE-72 delivers two 100GbE uplinks through the use of Arista MXP interfaces and embedded optics. Each MXP port enables twelve 10GbE, three 40GbE or one 100GbE for a wide choice of cost eective connections. The 7280SE-68 has two 100GbE QSFP uplinks that allows for the use of both 100GbE and 40GbE optics for the widest range of both short and long reach connection options, active and passive cables. 

All models in the 7280E Series deliver rich layer 2 and layer 3 features with wire speed performance up to 1.44 Terabits per second. Arista EOS

The Arista 7280E runs the same Arista EOS software as all Arista products, simplifying network administration. Arista EOS is a modular switch operating system with a unique state sharing architecture that cleanly separates switch state from protocol processing and application logic. Built on top of a standard Linux kernel, all EOS processes run in their own protected memory space and exchange state through an in-memory database. This multi-process state sharing architecture provides the foundation for in-service-software updates and self-healing resiliency.

With Arista EOS, advanced monitoring and automation capabilities such as Zero Touch Provisioning, VMTracer and Linux based tools can be run natively on the switch with the powerful quad-core x86 CPU subsystem

Precise Data Analysis

Arista Latency Analyzer (LANZ) and precision Data Analyzer (DANZ) are integrated features of EOS. DANZ provides a solution to monitoring and visibility challenges at 10/40/100Gbps giving IT operations the ability to proactively deliver feedback on congestion events, filter, replicate, aggregate and capture trac without aecting production performance. LANZ provides precise real-time monitoring of micro-burst and congestion events before they impact applications, with the ability to identify the sources and capture aected trac for analysis.

 

Precision Timing (IEEE 1588)

The IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol enables building and maintaining an accurate timing solution that delivers highly accurate precision time synchronization to sub-microsecond accuracy to applications within existing network infrastructure with no need to invest in and deploy a separate timing network. Arista’s 7280E Series hardware assisted Precision Time Protocol solution provides a high- performance and robust mechanism for accurate in-band time distribution to servers, routers and other switches.

 

Audio Video Bridging (AVB)

Audio Video Bridging (AVB) standards allow professional media to be reliably transported over an Ethernet network with the benefits of a packet-based infrastructure; greatly simplified cabling, great flexibility in signal routing and processing, and the advantage of extremely low costs due to the ubiquitous nature of Ethernet. The 7280E incorporates EOS support for IEEE AVB specifications for precise synchronization, trac shaping, admission control and device identification.

 

Virtualization

Supporting next-generation virtualized data centers requires tight integration with orchestration tools and emerging encapsulation technologies such as VXLAN. The 7280E builds on the valuable tools already provided by the Arista VM Tracer suite to integrate directly into encapsulated environments. Oering a wire-speed gateway between VXLAN and traditional L2/3 environments, the 7280E makes integration of non-VXLAN aware devices including servers, firewalls and load-balancers seamless and provides the ability to leverage VXLAN as a standards based L2 extension technology for non-MPLS environments. 

Arista Event Management (AEM)

Simplifying the overall operations, AEM provides the tools to customize alerts and actions. AEM is a powerful and flexible set of tools to automate tasks and customize the behavior of EOS and the operation of the overall data center switching infrastructure. AEM allows operators to fully utilize the intelligence within EOS to respond to real-time events, automate routine tasks, and automate actions based on changing network conditions.

Embedded optics combined with MPO interfaces provide a multi-speed port (MXP) capability that increases system density with a choice of 10G/40G/100G interfaces. MXP ports support a mix and match option of 12 x 10G, 3 x 40G or 1x 100G per port. With support for up to 400m over multi-mode fiber MXP ports provide high density and seamless migration from 10GbE to 100GbE without replacing transceivers or lowering system capacity.

QSFP100 ports enable a wide range of standards based 100G and 40G optics for both single and multi-mode fiber for distances up to 40km. Each interface can be configured independently for either 40G or 100G, or a 4x10G mode using breakout cables or optics.

QSFP+ ports enables the widest choice of copper, multimode and single-mode optics with both 10GbE and 40GbE options using both duplex and parallel technology that reach up to 40km.
