E-T-A -48VDC Vertical 0U Low Power Distribution Infrastructure for HPE Equipment QuickSpecs
E-T-A Breaker Panels are designed for power distribution cabinets and IT equipment rack installation. Each breaker panel is designed for 8 individual DC power outputs. One HPE S2B77A product contains two vertical 0U PDU panels, providing a total of 16 independent non-redundant or 8 redundant power outputs. |
One vertical 0ULP (low power) can provide 8 independent output terminals. One output can provide a maximum of 25 A current or 1000W power load. Breakers available with HPE product numbers are from 5 amps to 25 amps. Breakers are located at the same side as output terminals. One PDU group supplies up to 200 A load. One group is divided into 8 channels, having a maximum 25 A per channel.
Input (supply) terminals are labeled with + and - labels. Output terminals are labeled with numbers 1 … 8, corresponding to the circuit breaker slot above the terminal slot. All DC cables connect to the PDU using a Phoenix connector (Connector SPC 5/2-STCL-7,62) per channel unit. Input connections are UW95 Screw terminals 35 - 95 mm², AWG 4 - AWG 4/0.

Each device with DC power supplies is connected to 0U low power PDU with Phoenix connector in the cable end. The connector contains 2 holes for positive (+) and negative (-) cables separately. Device grounding is connected to separate grounding plate with M4 screws per PDU. Each PDU is grounded to rack grounding busbar. The rack must be connected to the data center grounding point.

One load connector can provide up to 25 A or 1000 W of power. If power supply load exceeds 1000W, one power supply load can be divided to two different output load connection with Y-cable. Then max power supply load is 2x25A or 2000W. One Y-cable connection requires 2 output slots and 2 circuit breakers per PDU panel.
Notes: Circuit breakers are not included in breaker panel kit, they have to be selected depending on the electrical load connected to each breaker panel output. Circuit breaker size recommendations are provided later in this document. 0ULP E-T-A DC cable length is optimized to nearest PDU. Plan 0ULP PDU location in the rack always close to target DC power supply. Both DC PSU and target 0ULP PDU need to be close the same height in the rack.
For -48V DC power distribution, the following elements are required: - DC Breaker Panels, serving the same function as PDUs in AC setups – power distribution. Additionally, breaker panels host all circuit breakers protecting each output and device connected to it. - Circuit Breakers to be inserted into Breaker Panels, rating to be selected according to the load connected to each output. - Matching power cables, ideally in optimal length to avoid excess as DC cables are thicker and excess consumes more space than on AC side. - The best cable length depends on the rack position of the breaker panel and the device connected to it. - The grounding cables to connect the rack to the breaker panels grounding points. - A grounding busbar to which all rack equipment is connected, and which is connected to Data Center ground by local electrician
Hewlett Packard Enterprise has two different DC power distribution solutions, which do not share the same components. Either use all HPE DC power distribution components, or use the E-T-A partner products, but do not mix the two solutions. The main difference is that E-T-A portfolio is richer, covers more deployment scenarios, and can be delivered pre-integrated in racks via Factory Express services. |

Form Factor - E-T-A breaker panel S2B77A is a 0U rack-mounted DC power distribution unit (PDU). - HPE G2 Advanced Series Rack Models 600 mm x 1200 mm are preferred, as 600 mm x 1075 mm may not provide enough installation space in the rear of the rack. If using 1075 mm rack, only shorter chassis (up to 640 mm in depth) can be installed with 0ULP DC PDU. | |

Notes: Circuit breaker SKU contains one breaker. Redundant power supply solution requires one breaker per power supply. Correct current value can be calculated from used power by dividing with 40V, which is the lowest voltage value when power supply get power from the reserve battery system in the data center. An example calculation, if power supply uses 900W, then calculated circuit breaker value is 900 W / 40A = 22.5 A. Select the next closest circuit breaker from the table. In this case it is S2B84A (E-T-A 25A Circuit Breaker). |

E-T-A power distribution components are compatible with select HPE equipment equipped with -48VDC power supplies. Please note that E-T-A cables cannot be used with other vendor DC power breaker panel systems and vice versa, as HPE or other vendors DC power cables are not compatible with E-T-A breaker panel. Breaker panel side connectors are physically different between the two breaker panel types.
HPE factory integration of complete racks of DC powered equipment is only available with E-T-A DC components. |
Step 1: Select the required number of Breaker Panel kits One Breaker Panel kit (S2B77A) contains two 0ULP DC PDUs and provides redundant 48V DC power for up to 8 dual power supply devices (total 16 individual DC outputs). Each 0ULP PDU has 8 outputs. Two 0ULP PDUs are needed for the redundant power solution. Each block of 8 outputs has 8x25 amps outputs. Maximum five 0ULP PDUs per side (totally ten 0ULP PDU) can be installed into one HPE G2 Advanced 42U 600 mm x 1200 mm rack.
While E-T-A components (excluding circuit breakers) are "sets" so that generally one set is enough for one device (examples: one ProLiant cable set is required for DL360 or 380 server; one Alletra storage cable set is required per enclosure), there are few exceptions. Consider for example HPE Networking Comware switches or Apollo servers, many of them can run with two power supplies, yet some models can have more. |
Step 2: Select the required number of grounding busbars Add one grounding bar set (S2B78A) per rack. SKU contains two set of grounding busbars for the redundant power supply solution. The grounding bar will be installed into rack rear side. All 0ULP PDU panels will be installed into it. |
Step 3: Select the required number of DC power cables Select the required number of optimal length cables, depending on the exact rack layout planned. One SKU contains two DC power cables for the redundant power supply solutions. Verify that DC power supply is supported by E-T-A cables. If E-T-A cable is not available, you can use S6J41A (E-T-A X22410301 Connector Set for 0U PDU) for maximum 25 A current or 1000 W power load. Maximum 6mm2 DC power cable is supported. Grounding cable is connected separately to grounding plate, not to Phoenix connector. |
Step 4: Select the required quantity of circuit breakers of each rating needed in your configuration Select circuit breaker of correct rating for each power supply to be connected. Recommendations for the correct sizes are provided after the circuit breakers listing. |
