Product overview

HPE Intelligent Management Center (IMC) software is a modular comprehensive resource management platform. With its extensive device support, IMC software provides true end-to-end management for the entire network, as well as the entire operation cycle.

HPE IMC Virtual Application Networking (VAN) Connection Manager software is an IMC module that delivers a template-based approach for managing network configuration policies, yielding consistency and reliability across the network infrastructure. Administrators define policies in a template, which is then applied as a configuration policy to the edge switch associated with the virtual machine of interest. Virtual machine network connectivity is automated and orchestrated by IMC VAN Connection Manager software, which helps accelerate application deployment and service rollout, and greatly reduces risk during virtual machine migration. The module includes a plug-in into the VMware® hypervisor manager, which enables the connection policies defined in IMC software to be applied to the virtual machine.

IMC VCM in conjunction with the HPE IMC QoS Manager module deploys network configuration policies to VMs that use tradition and VEPA solutions for access.

Features and benefits

Management

• Edge switch management
  monitors and manages the VMs that are connected to the edge switches; for ACL planning, an ACL number range is defined for each edge switch; you can query, add, or delete an edge switch
• Connection policy templates
  maintains a library of connection policy templates (VSI type) that act as the network configuration for binding to the vNIC of VMs; administrators can easily define bandwidth performance, quality of service, and allowed hosts in the connection policy; when deployed, these policies bind to the VM and are applied to the edge switch; these policies follow the VM when it is migrated; once created, these policies can be modified easily
• Network assignment
  allows each network to use a unique VLAN ID; you can assign VSI types to different networks; one VSI type can be assigned to multiple networks, and you can also specify which operator can manage a network, facilitating VSI type management; after a connection is created, you must select the network, VM, and VSI type; after the connection is successfully deployed, the VM uses the assigned network resources to communicate with external networks
• Migration history
  records VM migrations in a virtual network; administrators can view the migration history and operational records of VMs
• VMware hypervisor management support
  plugs into vCenter so that the VM connections created by IMC software can be managed, such as deploying and taking a VM offline, from the vCenter server
• Hypervisor support
  supports Citrix Xen Server 6.1.0 and Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V hypervisors
• vMotion
  allowing for the triggering of actions such as running scripts
