What's New

• Server + CAL Licensing

When licensing SQL Server software under the Server + CAL model, customers purchase a server license for each server, and a Client Access License (CAL) for each device (Device CAL) and/or user (User CAL) accessing SQL Server or any of its components. A CAL is not software; it is a license granting users and devices access to the SQL Server software.

- Hewlett Packard Enterprise is adding Reseller Option Kit (ROK) Part Numbers of SQL Server Standard Edition bundled with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter Editions, for six different languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese.

- SQL Server Standard Additional Licenses are also now available for the same six languages, aligned to the new ROK offering SKUs.

- SQL Server CALs for 1 and 5 Users or Devices are now available for the same six languages.

• Core Licensing

Under the Per Core licensing model, each server running SQL Server 2014 software or any of its components (such as Reporting Services or Integration Services) must be assigned an appropriate number of SQL Server 2014 core licenses.

With the Per Core model, customers do not need to purchase client access licenses (CALs) to access the SQL Server software.

- Hewlett Packard Enterprise is introducing SQL Server Standard 4 Core licensing SKUs plus 2 Core licensing SKUs for license additional cores on the physical Server or virtual cores on the Virtual Machine (VM) where the SQL Server will be installed. All cores on the physical Server or VM must be licensed. There is a minimum of four core license required per physical server or VM.
