HPE Application Tuner Express QuickSpecs

Optimizes application performance by loading data into memory close to the processor executing the computing instruction

The optimization reduces delay introduced when data gets stored in remote memory on other processors in the system. This software accelerator delivers Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) awareness to the application without having to change the application code. There is more performance benefit realized on larger socket count servers.

HPE Application Tuner Express optimizes processor loading and NUMA distances per application.

Choose between 5 different launch policies to find the optimal policy for your application.

Other NUMA tools restrict core choices per application, HPE Application Tuner Express intelligently and optimally distributes your application among nodes.

HPE Application Tuner Express has shown demonstrable benefit for database (OLTP), data warehouse (OLAP), SAP ERP and Apache SPARK workloads.

"The bigger the box, the better the benefit"

What's New

- This introductory release of HPE Application Tuner Express optimizes Linux® application performance by loading data into memory close to the processor executing the computing instruction on multi-processor x86 based systems. The optimization reduces delays introduced when data gets stored in remote memory on other processors in the system. This software accelerator delivers Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) awareness to applications without having to change the application code at all. There is more performance benefit realized on larger socket count servers.

- Benefits include:

    • Exclusive offering for use on all Hewlett Packard Enterprise branded scale-up x86 Linux servers.
    • Customizable to your application with five different launch policies
    • Non-intrusive application launch design means the only change is the application start command

Distribution Media and Software Documentation

HPE Application Tuner Express software and documentation are available on the HPE Software Depot where Hewlett Packard Enterprise offers a 60-day trial kit. https://h20392.www2.HPE.com/portal/swdepot/index.do?lc=en

Licenses can be purchased from HPE and convert the 60 day free trial into a fully supported kit without requiring application downtime.

Benefits:

- The HPE Application Tuner Express performance improvement can reduce the needed cores to be licensed for applications.

- Scale-up large application to meet increased demand without having to scale-out your application.

- Consolidate workloads and reduce power and cooling costs.

Examples:

- Internal testing has up to 60% scale-up database improvement.

- Internal testing has up to 60% scale-up database consolidation improvement
[2] HPE internal testing. Performance results with HPE-ATX (patent pending) on the Superdome X with Gen9 were achieved with one tenant totaling 144 users (4P), two tenants totaling 288 users (8P) and four tenants totaling 576 users (16P) for a 1-to-1 mapping of users to logical CPUs. Configurations that are over-subscribed may show less performance gain. Results as of April 6, 2016.

- Internal testing showed 30% performance gain on Apache® SPARK. [2]
[3] Results from an 8-node machine-learning cluster of 2-socket servers (8 nPars on a 16-socket Superdone X system) running the PageRank ML Benchmark with OpenJDK 8, RHEL 7.3. Results obtained on March 17, 2017 in Ft. Collins, CO

Operating System Support

Supported on RHEL 6.5 and all follow-on RHEL 6 releases, RHEL 7.0 and all follow-on RHEL 7 releases, SLES 11SP3 and all follow-on SLES 11 releases, SLES 12 and all follow-on SLES 12 releases.
