Intelligent Provisioning Version 1.63 and 2.50

Overview

Intelligent Provisioning Version 1.63 and 2.50

Intelligent Provisioning (http://www.hpe.com/servers/intelligentprovisioning) offers the ability for out-of-the box single-server deployment and configuration without the need for media, so there are no SmartStart CDs or Smart Update Firmware DVDs shipping with HPE ProLiant server products. With Intelligent Provisioning, server deployment and maintenance capability is now embedded inside all HPE ProLiant servers and server blades and resides on a NAND chip. Most of the needed firmware, drivers, and tools are pre-loaded and ready to deploy at your command. Simply press F10 during boot to get started.

Intelligent Provisioning addresses the complexity of server maintenance and deployment to offer improved server configuration and OS deployment. The Intelligent Provisioning offers system and OS configurations and eliminates some of the server set-up, configuration, and deployment steps, so customers can deploy their servers faster.

Benefits of Intelligent Provisioning are:

  • Increased simplicity because there is no need for media (no SmartStart CDs) with Intelligent Provisioning; it is initiated by pressing F10 during server boot process (POST)
  • Out-of-the box server deployment and configuration using a simple user interface (UI). Use the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) at http://www.hpe.com/servers/smartupdatemanager to get all required firmware and software updates after using Intelligent Provisioning
  • By connecting your server to the Internet, systems software can be updated directly from http://www.hpe.com to perform firmware and driver updates from Intelligent Provisioning
  • Supports choice of flexible OS deployment and media sources
  • Use the Erase utility in Intelligent Provisioning to return the server to its original factory state, clear hard drives and AHS logs, and reset RBSU settings

Upon startup of your HPE ProLiant server, you need to verify that you are running the latest version of the Intelligent Provisioning which is found from the HPE Support Center (HPE SC) website or from the downloads tab at http://www.hpe.com/servers/intelligentprovisioning. Customers can choose either to “Configure and Install” or “Perform Maintenance” functions from the Intelligent Provisioning home screen. The maintenance screen will have the configuration utilities needed to maintain HPE ProLiant servers. Intelligent Provisioning provides these OS Install options:

  • Recommended Install
  • Custom Install
  • Manual Install

Intelligent Provisioning enables customers to update their HPE ProLiant servers' software and firmware direct from the Internet and supports installing their OS and drivers for Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, SLES, RHEL, and VMware ESX, ESXi, and vSphere. Additionally by using the Scripting Toolkit for Windows and/or the Scripting Toolkit for Linux (http://www.hpe.com/servers/proliant/stk), customers can script multi-server environments or they can use a Console Management System (CMS) such as HPE Systems Insight Manager (HPE SIM) to deploy hundreds, even thousands of servers.

Other Intelligent Provisioning features:

  • Deployment Settings allows creating and editing a collection of configuration settings, saving them in a portable package, and deploying them 1 to many servers via iLO4 or 1:1 using a USB key
  • Deploying an OS to Smart Array based storage
  • Capability to deploy an OS from mutiple HPE-supported SD cards
  • Can pull OS media from optical / USB devices as well as from network (in various formats such as ISO or flat files)
  • Installs Windows, Linux, and VMware OSes
  • Provisions a server remotely using HPE iLO4
  • Registration of Insight Remote Support
  • Support for opt-in download of HPE StoreVirtual VSA software to take advantage of the 1TB free program

NOTE: Intelligent Provisioning may not support all of the server supported OS versions. Please see server QuickSpecs for specific OSes supported.
