HP Matrix Operating Environment is cloud management software for infrastructure as a service (IaaS) that enables you to:

• Design and provision infrastructure services in minutes via a self-service portal

• Protect service continuity with automated cost-effective failover

HP Matrix Operating Environment, which includes HP Insight Control, is at the core of the HP CloudSystem Matrix, an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution for private and hybrid cloud deployments, built on proven HP Converged Infrastructure technologies. It is available for both HP ProLiant and HP Integrity servers as well as for provisioning third party x86 virtual machine environments.

One server license is required for every managed server. Each server license also includes rights to manage one public cloud instance. Matrix OE helps you build a complete infrastructure environment ready for your applications in minutes-by automating the provisioning of virtual and, along with Virtual Connect, physical servers with their storage and networking connections. An application infrastructure can be up and running in minutes, rather than weeks or months.

Infrastructure orchestration

With the orchestration capability of Matrix OE, you can accelerate the
design and delivery of infrastructure resources by creating service templates. These templates can then be started, stopped, and stored offline for reuse. This means, you can now visually design a catalog of infrastructure service templates, including multi-tier, multi-node configurations that can be activated in minutes. Authorized users can provision virtual and physical (when used with Virtual Connect and Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager) infrastructure from pools of shared server and storage resources through a self-service portal, which automates and streamlines the approval process for requested infrastructure.

HP Matrix OE provides deep insight into your infrastructure and lets you quickly adjust your environment over its lifecycle, so that you can predictably make changes without time-consuming analysis. Key data points like power, CPU, memory, and network utilization are captured every five minutes (more than a thousand data points per server per day) and are used to generate best-fit consolidation scenarios that fit right.

With Matrix OE, you can do just that with built-in capacity planning and rebalancing tools. It is an industry leading real-time capacity planning tool, which allows you to continually analyze server capacity and power use. This intuitive capacity planning tool simulates various workload scenarios, so you can choose the one that best meets your business needs.

Protect continuity of services

For the utmost in integrated disaster recovery, Matrix OE recovery management lets you move workloads to other servers or sites with a simple mouse click, improving recovery time up to 80 percent or more. Failed over workloads are dealt with in as few as five minutes across physical (with Virtual Connect) and virtual servers. Core capabilities of Matrix OE recovery management include failover and recovery for both physical and virtual environments; integration with HP EVA and XP storage data replication solutions; a GUI, which is easy to use, for creation and testing of failover and recovery scenarios; and integration with VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environments for ProLiant Servers.

NOTE: HP Matrix Operating Environment recovery management is not supported on HP Integrity servers or on non-HP servers. It is only supported on HP ProLiant servers and server blades.

Move your Test & Development environment to a Cloud

Create a dynamic test and development infrastructure. Rapidly activate and deactivate test and development environments, to quickly repurpose infrastructure without reinstallation. Resources may be pooled and shared, improving utilization and reducing cost. Cloud bursting further allows you to provision services beyond the "private cloud" by "bursting" into a public cloud for a specific template-defined service. The resources in the public cloud are paid for only when used, and released when no longer needed, optimizing cost and flexibility.

Use the HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration capabilities to accelerate delivery of shared infrastructure services, while reducing complexity, cutting costs, and improving reliability. Use of capacity planning can help to contain server sprawl, improve utilization, and achieve space and power efficiencies. Finally, you can freely move workloads, during planned or unplanned downtime, to ensure and increase availability.

Deliver and monitor infrastructure and applications

This service provides access to HP technical resources for assistance in resolving software implementation or operations problems. The service also provides access to software updates and reference manuals either in electronic form or on physical media as they are made available from HP. (Customers who purchase an electronic license to use are eligible for electronic updates only.) With this service, HP Matrix Operating Environment customers will benefit from expedited problem resolution as well as proactive notification and delivery of software updates. If the license information you received for your product instructs you to register for Software Technical Support and Update Service, please follow the instructions so that you will be eligible for telephone support and product updates.

How to Use Your Software Technical Support and Update Service
Once registered, you will receive a service contract in the mail containing the Customer Service phone number and your Service Agreement Identifier (SAID).
