Processor specifications

The PowerEdge R930 system supports two or four Intel E7-8800/4800 v3 or Intel E7-8800/4800 v4 product family processors.

System battery specifications

The PowerEdge R930 system supports 3 V CR2032 Lithium coin cell system battery.

Expansion bus specifications

The PowerEdge R930 system supports PCI express (PCIe) Generation 3 expansion cards, which need to be installed on the system board using expansion card risers. This system supports three types of expansion card risers. The following table provides the expansion card riser specifications:
Table 1. Expansion card riser specificationsThis table describes the details of the PICe slots on the expansion card risers. Riser 1 (NDC riser default) supports slot 2, which supports a full-height , half-length, x8 expansion card. Optional riser 2, supports slots 1 through 8, all the slots support full-height and half-length expansion cards, slots 1and 2 support x4 expansion cards, slot 3 supports x8 expansion cards, and slots 4 through 8 support x16 expansion cards. Riser 3(optional) supports slots 9 and 10, slot 9 supports a full-height, full-length, x8 expansion card and slot 10 supports a half-height, half length x8 expansion card.

Memory specifications

The PowerEdge R930 system supports DDR4 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) and load-reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs). Supported memory bus frequencies are 1866 MT/s, 2133MT/s, or 2400 MT/s.

The system supports LRDIMMs of memory capacity 64 GB quad rank, RDIMMs of memory capacity 4 GB or 8 GB single rank, and RDIMMs of memory capacity 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB dual rank. For system with dual processor, the minimum RAM is 192 GB and For system with quad processor the minimum RAM is 384 GB GB (RDIMM). For system with dual processor, the maximum RAM is 3.07 TB and for system with quad processor, the maximum RAM is 6014 TB (LRDIMM).

Hard drives

The PowerEdge R930 system supports SAS and SATA hard drives and Solid State Drives (SSDs).

Performance Mode (split-capable)

Up to twenty four 2.5 inch, internal, hot-swappable SAS hard drives.
NOTE When the backplane is NOT in the split mode with single internal PERC, the maximum number of SATA/SSDs are 12 in the right bay (hard drives slots 12 through 23).
Twenty four or sixteen plus eight hard drive systems (SATA SSD) Up to sixteen 2.5 inch, internal, hot-swappable SATA drives and up to eight Dell PowerEdge Express Flash devices (PCIe SSDs) hard drives in hard drive slots 0 through 4 (bay 1), 0 through 4 (bay 2), and 8 through 15 (bay 3) for SAS/SATA.
NOTE Initial status LED of PCIe SSDs may vary based on the actual drive status and server components populated.

Optical drive

The PowerEdge R930 system supports one optional SATA DVD-ROM drive or DVD+/-RW drive.

USB ports

The PowerEdge R930 system supports:
  • USB 2.0-compliant ports on the front panel
  • USB 2.0-compliant ports on the back panel
  • USB 2.0-compliant internal port

NIC ports

The PowerEdge R930 system supports four 10/100/1000 Mbps Network Interface Controller (NIC) ports on the back panel.

Serial connector

The serial connector connects a serial device to the system. The PowerEdge R930 system supports one serial connector on the back panel, which is a 9-pin connector, Data Terminal Equipment (DTE), 16550-compliant.

VGA ports

The Video Graphic Array (VGA) port enables you to connect the system to a VGA display. The PowerEdge R930 system supports two 15-pin VGA ports one each on the front and back panels.

Internal Dual SD Module

The PowerEdge R930 system supports two optional flash memory card slots with an internal dual SD module.
NOTE One card slot is dedicated for redundancy.

Video specifications

The PowerEdge R930 system supports Matrox G200 graphics card with 16 MB capacity.

Environmental specifications

Table 1. Temperature specificationsWhen the system is in continuous operation (for altitude less than 950 m or 3117 ft), the temperature specification ranges from 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F) with no direct sunlight on the equipment. NOTE: Maximum of 145 W 22 core processor is supported in systems with eight 2.5-inches drives, two PCI slot chassis, and 75 W single wide active GPU. When the system is not in operation, the temperature specification is –40°C to 65°C (–40°F to 149°F). The Maximum temperature gradient for both opertaion and non-opertaional systems is 20°C/h (36°F/h).

Operating temperature de-rating specificationsIf the operating temerature of a system is up to 35 °C (95 °F), the maximum temperature is reduced by 1 °C/300 m (1 °F/547 ft) above 950 m (3,117 ft). If the operating temperature of a system ranges from 35 °C to 40 °C (95 °F to 104 °F), the maximum temperature is reduced by 1 °C/175 m (1 °F/319 ft) above 950 m (3,117 ft). If the operating temperature of a system ranges from 40 °C to 45 °C (104 °F to 113 °F), the maximum temperature is reduced by 1 °C/125 m (1 °F/228 ft) above 950 m (3,117 ft).

Particulate and gaseous contamination specifications

The following table defines the limitations that help avoid any equipment damage or failure from particulates and gaseous contamination. If the levels of particulates or gaseous pollution exceed the specified limitations and result in equipment damage or failure, you may need to rectify the environmental conditions. Re-mediation of environmental conditions is the responsibility of the customer.

In systems that have do not have Class 2, Near Line SAS hard drives installed the restrictions listed here need to be followed:

  • x4 passive backplane only

  • Requires 4 PSUs (redundant)

  • No PCIe SSD

  • No Class 2, Near Line SAS, hard drives

In systems that have Enterprise, Near Line SAS hard drives installed the restrictions listed here need to be followed:

  • x4 Backplane with any combination of CPU configuration

  • x24 Backplane supports a maximum of 140W CPUs

  • No PCIe SSD

  • Fans speeds are limited to 90% of full speed
